Our seniors worked hard to get to where they are, and we want to honor them for all of their accomplishments. Forest Area Credit Union and 107.9 CDY are helping us with this by playing each member of the class or 2020's name and future plans on the radio. The segments will be airing starting tomorrow, May 7th through the 21st, seven days a week, at 7:15a, 10:15a, 1:15p and 4:15p. Go Bulldogs!

Hello Bulldogs!
A reminder that tomorrow, Thursday May 7th, you can pick up your child’s personal belongings from 4:00-6:00 pm. JH/HS student pickup will be at the JH/HS building, and elementary student’s pickup will be in the parking lot behind the elementary school. When pulling in, please form a line the best you can and stay in your vehicle. A staff member will get your child’s belongings for you. Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi Mesick Families,
Emotional regulation, day three!
To understand emotions, it helps to understand how they impact the brain!
(please see accompanying photo of the brain that goes along with this explanation)
Our brain is like zoo, filled with lots of different animals; each animal having a different role:
-The owl sits calmly at the front, ready to solve problems and help calm the monkey down.
-The monkey examines things with curiosity and decides whether a certain change of situation is good or bad for you. When he spots danger, he runs wild, scaring and agitating all the other animals, except for the owl which he simply throws out, so he can keep making a mess with no one to stop him.
-The elephant has excellent memory. He sits there pretty quietly but only until he sees something that reminds him of an unpleasant experience. He then immediately alerts the monkey who runs wild all over again.
-The rabbit is always on the lookout for danger; when he sees the monkey isn’t calm, he quickly runs away and hides.
-The lion waits for the monkey to get started; that’s a sign for him to attack.
-As for the penguin, the moment he senses that things are going bad, he freezes on the spot!
Now imagine what would happen in a zoo with an over exaggerating elephant, a hyperactive monkey that’s constantly edgy, or a rabbit that runs and hides even when things are not that bad. Tough, indeed!
Which animals run your brain?
Why did we choose these animals?
When do we respond from the penguin?
When do we respond from the lion?
When do we respond from the rabbit?
What other animal would we add to the zoo?
"Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change."

Hi Mesick Families,
The focus this week is emotional regulation, and learning to manage those powerful feelings we all have. Here's one technique I love!
S – Stop
T – Take A Breath
O – Observe – your thoughts and feelings
P- Pull Back – put in some perspective – what is the bigger picture?
P – Practice What Works – Proceed – what is the best thing to do right now?
Next time you (or a kiddo or loved one) is struggling to get emotions under control, give it a try. Here's a video that helps explain further: https://youtu.be/4x35DyHwfto
Please check out the included photos to learn more about understanding thoughts and emotions.
"Feel the feeling but don't become the emotion. Witness it. Allow it. Release it." -Crystal Andrus
Have a great evening!

We all remember the teacher that had a big positive impact on our lives when we were in school. I consider myself lucky to be surrounded by those types of teachers every day at work (or these days, in virtual meetings). Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to the most caring, hardest working, most fun, teachers around! Mesick Teachers truly are the best!

Grades K-3
BE ON THE LOOK OUT, Kids Read Now will mail your child their first book this week! Look below for the details.
Ahead of their book arriving, each family will receive a copy of our Parent Guide in their mailbox to learn more about Kids Read Now and how to report their books.
Since we are unable to host a family reading night, your first three books will be automatically mailed out one at a time over this month.
What you need to know about reporting book codes:
*Each book sent has a unique three-digit code
*Parents must report the three-digit code to get their next book
*Instructions on how to report the code to KRN are located in each book and the Parent Guide
*Books can be reported by text, phone call, or the free KRN app
Starting in June, we will send your families weekly reminders to report book codes, but they can be reported as soon as your child receives them!

Hi Mesick Families,
This week were going to focus on emotional regulation! What is emotional regulation? It's about having the skills to control your behavior, emotions, and thoughts while you navigate life.
We learn emotional regulation skills to help us manage the way we feel and cope with situations. To learn these skills, we first need to understand and identify feelings.
The video below is for younger students to begin to understand anger and controlling it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxSKKtUdAjU
This video is for older students, and is about understanding why we lose control of our emotions.

Remember, THINK before you speak:
"Is is True?"
"Is it Helpful?"
"Is it Inspiring?"
"Is it Necessary?"
"Is it Kind?"
Have a great Monday!

Hi Mesick families!
Teachers inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. They motivate, they support, they listen, and they go above and beyond for their students and families- and now they're doing it all remotely. This week is NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! It's a chance for us to thank educators for all of the incredible things that they do!
Here are some ways we can thank our teachers from home:
*Give your teacher a shout out here, on the school media page and use the hashtag #ThankATeacher
*Write a thank-you note, poem, or song for your teacher
*Draw a picture for your teacher and send via text or email
*Send a video message thanking your teacher
*Get creative! How has your teacher helped and inspired you?
Have a great Monday!
Ms. Stevens

Happy Monday everyone! Quizziz tonight at 7:00 pm! Hope to see you there!
