It was a bittersweet weekend for Mesick Athletics. Our football team traveled to Kingston Friday night for the first round of the MHSAA playoffs but unfortunately were not able to bring home a win. The magical season has come to an end but not before the boys were able to make history as conference champions and notch 11 selections to the WMD All Conference team. It was an amazing year for these guys and it will not be the last time we hear about them! On Saturday afternoon at the Cross Country State Finals Grant Fleis ran the race of his life and finished 27th overall. This outstanding performance allowed Grant to bring home a medal and also got him selected to the Division 4 Boys All-State Cross Country Team. Congratulations Grant and we can't wait to see what you do as a Senior! Monday provided a big time performance from the Mesick Volleyball team as they beat rival Buckley in the first round of District play. The girls will be playing tonight at 6:00 pm vs Traverse City Christian in the District Semi-Final. We hope to see everyone there cheering on the girls as they look to play in their second district championship in the last 3 years. Also tonight our JH Boys Basketball team will be playing in their second contest of the season at Bear Lake. On Monday the boys split with Brethren and are looking to rebound tonight at 5:30 pm. Have a great week everyone and we hope to see you at the game!

The 4th grade Bulldogs learned some valuable water safety lessons yesterday at the YMCA. Students practiced entering and paddling a canoe, how to fit and use a life jacket properly, and how to help someone who has fallen in the water. As always, our kids did a great job!

Great day to be a bulldog!
Hello All, I received the email below this past weekend. This is a testament to our students, staff and community. This was the first time Mesick has played Kingston in any event. Great job on leaving a great impression! Proud to be a Bulldog! Good Evening Gentlemen; As I said last night to Kyle and Coach Ream, last night was what high school sports is really all about. I witnessed 31 players, several coaches and numerous Mesick fans show the best display of sportsmanship I have seen in my over 40 years of high school athletics. Helping players off the ground, patting them on the back and helmet and even once a Mesick player pulled a Kingston players jersey back over his shoulder pad. Watching your team shake the hands of the MHSAA officials was an inspiration. In the cafeteria after the game every player and coach that was there said "thank you" for the pizza and drinks. The parents I talked to were extremely friendly and complementary on the night as a whole. Regardless of the score, because of what I witnessed, The Mesick Bulldogs were the true winners. I (we) here at Kingston High School wish you great success in the future and hope to see you again down the road. -- Thank You Carl Nicol Kingston Athletics

Please do not forget to vote tomorrow on the renewal of Mesick School's Non- Homestead Operational Millage. The non-homestead operating millage renewal proposal on the November 5th ballot will not affect taxes on your primary residence (home). The millage applies mainly to businesses and second homes. If your primary residence is within the Mesick Consolidated School District, the non-homestead operating millage renewal will have no impact on your tax rate—none! However, all registered voters living in the Mesick Consolidated School District can vote on the non-homestead operating millage renewal. Here’s what your vote means: A YES vote will… • NOT affect taxes on your primary residence (home). (The non-homestead operating millage applies mainly to businesses and second homes.) • allow the school district to continue to levy the number of operating mills required to receive revenues at the full per pupil allowance permitted by the State. • generate approximately $1.3 million in annual operating revenue for school district programs and services. • renew the non-homestead operating millage approved by voters in 2014. A NO vote will… • NOT affect taxes on your primary residence (home). • mean a loss of of approximately $1.3 million in annual revenue for school district programs and services. • mean reductions in programs for students and services to the community. The non-homestead operating millage proposal will not affect taxes on your home if you live in the Mesick Consolidated School District. However, voter approval of the millage will generate approximately $1.3 million for school programs and services. Please make sure you vote at the polls on Tuesday, November 5th. If you have questions or need more information, please contact me at 231/885-1200 or by email at akoms@mesick.org.
