Dear Mesick Community:
We have our revised the school district's COVID Protocol for when students/staff test positive for COVID-19 or are identified as "close contact" with another person who has tested positive. The revisions go into effect on Wednesday, May 11 and are in line with recommendations from Central Michigan Health Dept. #10 and what other schools in our area are doing.
Mesick Consolidated Schools Revised COVID Protocol May 2022 (based on recommendations from District 10 Central Michigan Health Dept.)
Proposed Revised for Mesick
Student/Staff who test positive
5 days quarantine from the day symptoms started. If no symptoms, 5 days quarantine from the day of positive the test. When returning to school, wear a mask for 5 days.
Student/Staff who had high intensity contact * with someone who tested positive for COVID in the past 19 days
May remain in school, but must complete a negative viral test for COVID before riding the Mesick bus or entering the school building after learning of close contact. When returning to school, wear a mask for 5 days.
Student/Staff who had low intensity contact * with someone who tested positive for COVID in the past 19 days
May remain in school, but wear a mask in school for 5 days from the date of the last close contact.
Other Items To Note:
1. “High Intensity Contact” - Relationship to the person contagious with COVID may include anyone living in the same house, anyone sleeping in the same room, anyone they have had full bodily contact with, contact with bodily secretions (including kissing), sharing water bottles, food, towels, cleaning up tissues.
2. “Low Intensity Contact” - Was within 3 feet of the person contagious with COVID for a total of 15 minutes in a 24 hour period AND does not include any of the risks listed for the High Intensity Contact.
What other schools are doing regarding close contact:
WMISD - staff required to mask for 10 days if no symptoms
Brethren, Brethren, Cadillac, Lake City - covid positive stay home for 5 days and return w/mask for 5 days. Close contacts only monitor symptoms (Cadillac requires masks). If close contact lives with a COVID positive person, can attend but must be masked.
McBain, Manton, Pine River - Close contacts only monitor for symptoms
