Greetings Mesick Consolidated Schools Parents:

My name is Joe Hollenbeck and I am the new Superintendent here in Mesick.  I feel fortunate to be in this position and I look forward to working with our students and families this school year! I’m originally from another small town in this part of Michigan and I’m thrilled to be returning and working in the caring, supportive environment that is typical in small communities.

Our teachers report tomorrow and will spend the week preparing their classrooms, planning lessons, and learning about our school-wide initiative called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  The ultimate goal of this initiative is to increase student engagement at school.

Even though classes haven’t yet started, some of our students have already been busy representing our school at various events.  Our football team participated in a scrimmage last week in Pickford and opens their season this Thursday evening at Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart.  Our Varsity and J.V. Volleyball teams had a successful tournament at McBain this weekend.  And our Band students were on campus four days last week for their annual Band Camp.  We are anxious to see the rest of our students participate in other activities when classes begin!

Here are a few upcoming items of importance that we’d like you to be aware of:

Wednesday, Aug. 25      5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.        Open House

                                                       5:30 p.m.                                 Gr. 6 Orientation

Thursday, Aug. 26             7:00 p.m.                                Football @ Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart

Monday, Aug. 30                8:00 a.m.                                First Day of School

                                                       12:00 p.m.                                Noon Dismissal

Previously my office has shared a document that describes our plans for opening school as it relates to COVID-19 and keeping our students and staff safe.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns about that document or other aspects of our school.  I’m happy to meet face to face with interested parents, but please make an appointment in advance in these cases.  The beginning of the school year is a busy time and my focus will be getting to know our students and teachers through classroom and hallway visits.

I wish all students and families the very best for the 2021-22 school year!
