Hello again Everyone, After communicating all morning with 9&10 weather and our sound and technical teams and gathering the best information we have available, we have determined that the forecasted weather presents too many risks to have a safe ceremony tonight. We have made the decision to postpone the graduation ceremony until this Sunday June 28th at 1:00 pm. The student walk-through of the JR/SR High will take place beginning at 11:45 until 12:30. Students should report to the staging area near the concession stand by 12:45. The decision to postpone was made with safety in mind and knowing that we have a safer and more enjoyable option for our graduates and guests on Sunday. We have waited this long to provide the best ceremony to the class of 2020. We will only need to wait 2 more days. We are sorry for any inconvenience this creates for you and your family.
Hello Everyone, As you know, graduation is scheduled for tonight at 7:00. If you have been looking at the weather, you also know that we have a risk of severe storms this evening as well. We are keeping an eye on the radar, making contact with our connection at 9&10 weather, and communicating with our sound and technical crews, and we will be making decisions accordingly. We will have a final decision about the ceremony by 1:00 at the latest. Please keep an eye on your email, Facebook, and the live feed for further updates.
On Monday, June 29th at 7:30 am, the outdoor athletic fields will be having the grass treated. We will be spraying for weeds and applying fertilizer. Because of this, the outdoor athletic complex will be closed through Tuesday. Please avoid this area beginning Monday morning at 7:30 am. Thank you for your cooperation. Go Bulldogs!

A good way to accomplish this goal is to incorporate reading into your child’s daily routine. Looking for summer reading opportunities to prevent the summer slide, Look Below...
Hi Mesick families! Reflection is an important part of life and of the learning process. It allows us to learn more about ourselves and improve! A defining condition of being human is that we have to understand the meaning of our experience. —Jack Mezirow Take some time today to think of some positive memories from this year and how you have grown and changed (individually and as a family). Have a great last couple of days! -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families! As the school year comes to a close, it’s hard not to think about how different things are from years past. Last day celebrations, graduation, and other summer “kick-off’s” will also look different this year. There will likely be some emotions that come up as the end of the school year sets in. Some of you might feel relief and happiness, others may feel angry and upset, worried, or a combination of many feelings. Know that whatever you’re experiencing is valid and okay! Everyone handles things differently. To help focus on some positivity amidst the challenges, I encourage you to help your children think about the friends they’ve made, the lessons they’ve learned, and how much they’ve grown this year! What were some challenges they overcame? What were some positive memories? Have a sunny Monday! -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families! This week’s focus is going to be on the family. Research shows that spending meaningful and fun time together as a family has a variety of benefits. Here are just a few of them. 1. Better Behavior Kids need strong, loving relationships with family members in order to develop well. Research shows that when teens spend more time with their parents, they are less likely to skip school or get in trouble with the law. Spending that quality time together as a family may be key to helping your kids stay out of trouble in the future! 2. Less Stress Feeling stressed by all your responsibilities? Take a break and have some family fun! Studies show that leisure can be an effective way to both cope with stress and protect against stress’s negative health impacts. So try making time for play time as a family to reduce stress for both you and your kids. 3. Stronger Family Bonds Time together doing something relaxing or enjoyable can help you draw closer together. Just like couples benefit from sharing fun activities, families need fun too! In fact, research supports the fact that spending leisurely time together as a family improves family bonding and satisfaction. Ready, set, play! “We may have our differences, but nothing is more important than family..” -coco (2017) -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families, Day 3 of gratitude! Here are a few things you can do at home to incorporate and encourage gratitude. 1. Daily gratitude reflection There are many ways to incorporate gratitude into your daily life. One great way is for everyone to share one thing they are grateful for at the dinner table each night. Everyone gets a chance to reflect upon their day, and find just one thing to be grateful for. This helps children gain a little bit of perspective, and appreciate that while every day may not be good, there is always something good in every day. 2. Help others Encourage your kids to help others in age appropriate ways. Help them to find causes they feel passionate about and are interested in, and allow them to contribute in their own unique way, using their special skills and talents. It could be donating belongings or food to the homeless, volunteering their time at a nursing home, donating their pocket money to a good cause, participating in a fun run to raise money for a particular charity. Whatever it is, giving to others in need will help your child appreciate their own life and how fortunate they are. 3. Say thank you Using manners certainly helps us to express gratitude for others, but I’m not just talking about saying thank you to your brother for passing the milk at breakfast this morning. I’m talking about thanking people for the small things they do for us that make our days brighter. Express appreciation to your neighbor for always bringing your bin in off the curb for you. Let your friend know how much you appreciate her always being there to listen when you need to talk. Thank your mum for the way she always brings you a special home made treat when she comes to visit. Thank your child’s teacher for always showing up to class with a smile, even when she’s been up late marking homework. “Appreciation is a wonderful thing: it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” -Voltaire Have a great day! -Ms. Stevens
Congrats to our top 3 tonight: Emerie, Maggie, & Lily P. Thanks for playing everyone, see you back here on Friday!
We’ll be back at Quizziz tonight at 7:00 pm! Game code released at 6:45 pm.
Hi Mesick families! Gratitude! What is it? Gratitude is one of many positive emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted, like having a place to live, friends, family, even computer or phone access. It's taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are when something good happens — whether it's a small thing or a big thing. We can use lots of words to describe feelings of gratitude: We might say we feel thankful, lucky, fortunate, humbled, or blessed. **the ‘Thankful Phone’ activity is hard to read. The directions say- “challenge those in your family to share a picture from their phone (that they’ve already taken) that best represents the items on the list. Explain yourself choices!” “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” – Cynthia Ozick -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families! Day 2 on self-esteem. Kids who feel good about themselves have the confidence to try new things. They are more likely to try their best. They feel proud of what they can do! Self-esteem helps kids cope with mistakes and try again if they fail at first. This can help them do better in school, at home, and with friends and family. Here is a fun video for younger kids, all about what makes them special! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrPm7BasRBo Here is an encouragement jar activity for older kids (or for the whole family). There is such amazing power in beautiful words! “Beauty begins the moment you decided to be yourself.” -Coco Chanel Have a great day! -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families! This weeks topic is self-esteem. What is self esteem, and why is it important? It’s used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. It’s very important , because kids who feel good about themselves feel liked and accepted, confident, proud of what they do, and they believe in themselves. Kids with low self-esteem are critical of themselves, they focus on failures instead of successes, and lack confidence and a willingness to try new things at times. Self-esteem starts as early as babyhood and is important to grow from there! Early on, it can be showing positive attention, care, and acceptance. This week, I will share some activities to help build older student’s self-esteem. Here’s an activity that celebrates your child's traits and abilities through a self portrait activity! https://www.pbs.org/parents/crafts-and-experiments/build-confidence-with-a-self-portrait "The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice." -Peggy O'mara Have a great week! -Ms. Stevens
Happy Monday! Tonight's Quizziz will be focusing on grammar! See you at 6:45 pm for the game code!

Hi Mesick families! Connection and kindness- here are some ways we can stay connected in a time when we often feel so disconnected. Along with online platforms like google hangouts and zoom, and talking over the phone, here are a few ideas of ways to connect and take a break from screens: 1. Get a pen pal! Write a letter, postcard, or card to someone you know to let them know you’re thinking about them. Bonus- you can practice writing and patience too! 2. RAK- Random Act of Kindness. It’s important to follow social distancing guidelines, but that doesn’t eliminate all kind acts! Here are some examples: write or draw or create something to send to a friend or an older adult who may be lonely at this time, make a positive sign to put in your yard (or a neighbors), leave a note for your mail person or another essential worker as a thank you, send a note or thank you to your teacher or school staff, or even help out a little more around the house! 3. Make a gratitude jar- try and get your whole family to participate too! Write down things you are grateful for (small and big) put them in a jar, and read them at the end of the week. 4. Every family has a different schedule, but try and find 10 minutes or more to do a non-electronic activity together. This could be a playing board game, playing cards, cooking a meal, a conversation, building something, learning something new etc. 5. Connect with nature! Get outside and explore, see, feel, listen and touch things in nature and remember that all things are connected! “Do small things with great love” -mother Teresa Have a kind weekend! -Ms. Stevens
Congratulations to our top 3 tonight: Lily, the Stankes, & LA. See you all back on Friday!

Hi Mesick families! This week’s topic is kindness. What is kindness? Kindness is showing concern about the well-being and feelings of others. It’s the quality of being friendly, warm-hearted, considerate, generous, and more. Why is kindness important? Here are just a few benefits children will experience from learning values like kindness: 1. Happy children! Studies show that kindness activated the joyful area of the brain. 2. Improved health and less stress! Being kind increases happiness and decreases stress. 3. Greater sense of belonging! Even small acts of kindness create feelings of self-worth and belonging. 4. Increased feelings of gratitude! Children learn to appreciate what they have when helping others. 5. Better concentration! Kindness helps children feel good, and having a positive outlook increases attention spans and encourages more creative thinking. 6. Less bullying! Research shows that effects of bullying can be reduced significantly with kindness/related programs. Try some of these activities with your children at home! “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” -unknown Have a great week! -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick Families, Emotional regulation, day three! To understand emotions, it helps to understand how they impact the brain! (please see accompanying photo of the brain that goes along with this explanation) Our brain is like zoo, filled with lots of different animals; each animal having a different role: -The owl sits calmly at the front, ready to solve problems and help calm the monkey down. -The monkey examines things with curiosity and decides whether a certain change of situation is good or bad for you. When he spots danger, he runs wild, scaring and agitating all the other animals, except for the owl which he simply throws out, so he can keep making a mess with no one to stop him. -The elephant has excellent memory. He sits there pretty quietly but only until he sees something that reminds him of an unpleasant experience. He then immediately alerts the monkey who runs wild all over again. -The rabbit is always on the lookout for danger; when he sees the monkey isn’t calm, he quickly runs away and hides. -The lion waits for the monkey to get started; that’s a sign for him to attack. -As for the penguin, the moment he senses that things are going bad, he freezes on the spot! Now imagine what would happen in a zoo with an over exaggerating elephant, a hyperactive monkey that’s constantly edgy, or a rabbit that runs and hides even when things are not that bad. Tough, indeed! Which animals run your brain? Why did we choose these animals? When do we respond from the penguin? When do we respond from the lion? When do we respond from the rabbit? What other animal would we add to the zoo? "Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change." -Anonymous Happy Wednesday! -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick Families, The focus this week is emotional regulation, and learning to manage those powerful feelings we all have. Here's one technique I love! S – Stop T – Take A Breath O – Observe – your thoughts and feelings P- Pull Back – put in some perspective – what is the bigger picture? P – Practice What Works – Proceed – what is the best thing to do right now? Next time you (or a kiddo or loved one) is struggling to get emotions under control, give it a try. Here's a video that helps explain further: https://youtu.be/4x35DyHwfto Please check out the included photos to learn more about understanding thoughts and emotions. "Feel the feeling but don't become the emotion. Witness it. Allow it. Release it." -Crystal Andrus Have a great evening! -Ms. Stevens
We all remember the teacher that had a big positive impact on our lives when we were in school. Hi Mesick Families, This week were going to focus on emotional regulation! What is emotional regulation? It's about having the skills to control your behavior, emotions, and thoughts while you navigate life. We learn emotional regulation skills to help us manage the way we feel and cope with situations. To learn these skills, we first need to understand and identify feelings. The video below is for younger students to begin to understand anger and controlling it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxSKKtUdAjU This video is for older students, and is about understanding why we lose control of our emotions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bKuoH8CkFc&feature=emb_rel_end Remember, THINK before you speak: "Is is True?" "Is it Helpful?" "Is it Inspiring?" "Is it Necessary?" "Is it Kind?" Have a great Monday! -Ms. Stevens
Hi Mesick families! Teachers inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. They motivate, they support, they listen, and they go above and beyond for their students and families- and now they're doing it all remotely. This week is NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! It's a chance for us to thank educators for all of the incredible things that they do! Here are some ways we can thank our teachers from home: *Give your teacher a shout out here, on the school media page and use the hashtag #ThankATeacher *Write a thank-you note, poem, or song for your teacher *Draw a picture for your teacher and send via text or email *Send a video message thanking your teacher *Get creative! How has your teacher helped and inspired you? Have a great Monday! Ms. Stevens

Some students took all of their belongings home when the closure first happened, so be sure to ask your student if they have items in their locker. We have not cleaned out gym lockers at this point.

Mesick Class of 2020: To commemorate the hard work and dedication from our 2020 seniors, we would like to honor them in an event known as "Decision Day." Before graduation, Decision Day is a time for seniors to commit to their future plans, goals, and dreams. We are asking seniors to submit a photo of themselves displaying what they plan on doing after high school. Whether going to college, joining the workforce, or pursuing other goals, we want you all to be excited about your futures! Some photo suggestions include: dressing up in your prospective college gear, dressing up for the job you want, or dressing up to represent your future aspirations. We would like you to get creative and celebrate your achievements virtually! If possible, find a way to incorporate the hashtags #DecisionDay #IDecided in your picture! We will then share your decision photos on our Facebook May 8th, 2020! To sweeten the deal, we are offering each senior a $10 Amazon E-Gift card for participating in our event! (To be eligible, please have an email with an Amazon account ready.) *Please submit all photos to Mrs. Rasmussen @ email@example.com by 9AM, May 8th.* Congrats Bulldogs!
Hi Mesick families! Last coping skills post of the week here. Why do we need coping skills? Without healthy coping skills, kids are more likely to act out-sending a message that says, “I feel out of control, so I’m going to act out of control.” Kids who don’t know how to deal with their feelings are also more likely to turn to unhealthy coping strategies as they grow older. Two types of coping include problem-focused coping and emotional coping. Problem-focused coping examples are: asking for support, addressing time management, getting organized, making a total do’ list, and having healthy boundaries. Emotional coping examples are: exercising, taking a bath, doing yoga, and talking with a friend. What helps you cope? “Times of stress are also times that are signals for growth, and if we use adversity properly, we can grow through adversity.” -Abraham Twerski Happy Thursday! -Ms. Stevens
Congrats to our top 3 Maggie, Katelynn, & Nick! See you back here on Friday!
Hi Mesick families! More mindfulness today. Remember, mindfulness is about attention, intention, and attitude. It helps lower anxiety and stress, and increase positive moods; it can help us recognize and regulate emotions, and improve our self-control. In today’s post, there are links to two sample mindfulness videos. One is a mindful owl and best suited for 3rd grade and under. https://youtu.be/0k_R7R1gIdA The other video is a two minute affirmation song for listening and breathing (I’ve told folks to breathe in as colors appear, and breathe out as they start to disappear). This one is great for all ages! https://youtu.be/0qJo87mmR9M You will also see a worksheet to help kids (and adults too!) practice identifying feelings (emotional awareness) and ways to address them. Lastly, you will see a list of 23 mindful activities to try! “That’s life: starting over, one breath at a time.” -Sharon Salzburg Have a wonderful Wednesday! -Ms. Stevens

We appreciate your patience with this implementation. We should have more information to you in the next couple of days. Hello All, it has been quite some time since we have been able to update you all on the state of athletics. Below you will find the most recent press release from the MHSAA regarding the Winter sports tournament and Spring sports. It is said with a heavy heart that the Spring sports season is officially cancelled. Before reading the statement below, we would like to present you with some good news. This past basketball season six Mesick basketball players were selected to the WMD All Conference teams. 1st Team - Lexy Abraham and Lucas Hayes. 2nd Team - Jillian Hillier and Logan Wienclaw. Honorable Mention - Elizabeth Hamilton and Robert Spoor. Congratulations to all! We will be releasing some off season sports workouts soon for the kids to complete at home. Stay well and we will be in touch! EAST LANSING, Mich. – April 3 – The Michigan High School Athletic Association has canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 Winter and Spring sports seasons, in compliance with the Thursday (April 2) “state of disaster” directive by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer closing school buildings and moving education online for the remainder of the school year to help decrease the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. This will be the first school year to not see MHSAA Finals played in multiple sports since 1942-43, when World War II led to the elimination of Finals in most sports. The MHSAA on March 12 suspended its girls and boys basketball, girls gymnastics, boys ice hockey and boys swimming & diving tournaments amid COVID-19 concerns. All activity in all sports was halted March 13. Spring sports to that point had begun practice, but not competition. The MHSAA’s Representative Council approved during its Winter Meeting on March 27 a series of concepts for completing the Winter tournaments and an abbreviated Spring season, contingent on the lifting of a statewide quarantine. The closure of school buildings into June made those possibilities void. The MHSAA’s Executive Committee, comprised of officers of the larger Council, affirmed the decision today (April 3) to cancel the remainder of this school year’s activities. “We are heartbroken to not be able to provide these opportunities for Michigan’s student-athletes, and especially seniors. We continue to hear from dozens asking us to hold out hope. But safety always must come first, and Governor Whitmer is making courageous decisions to safeguard the people of our state,” MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl said. “We understand as much as anyone how much school sports mean to athletes and their communities. We had ideas and hopes for finishing Winter and Spring and helping bring some sort of normalcy after this long break. But this is the correct decision, and we will play our part in bringing schools and communities together again when the time is right.” “For now, we cannot state strongly enough that all students, staffs and others follow the guidelines established to slow the spread of this virus – we all must do our part.” Because the five Winter sports were not able to conclude with Finals, no champions will be awarded in those sports for 2019-20. However, championships won at earlier rounds of those tournaments (District or Regional) will continue to stand. The MHSAA will in coming weeks provide guidelines and other information pertinent to this unusual offseason as attention is turned to preparing for Fall 2020.
Sadly, the Class of 1970 feels it is necessary to cancel the All-School Reunion for 2020. At this time we all need to focus on staying healthy. We will miss seeing all of you and hope to see you in 2021!

I know how much our students enjoyed the recent visit we had from the John Ball Zoo and yesterday I found these really fun videos from the Cincinnati Zoo featuring a new animal every day at 3:00. Today's video is about the Lions! There are even some fun activities you can do that coordinate with the animal you see each day. Previous videos are also available and include Sloths, an Ocelot, a Porcupine and a Hippo! You can find the videos at the Cincinnati Zoo website under the Home Safari Resources page or you can also find them on YouTube. The link is below. Kind of like a field trip from the comfort of your home! http://cincinnatizoo.org/home-safari-resources/
Biology students Another assignment I usually give at this time is to make a family tree, except instead of the usual the goal is to track characteristics, like eye color, hair color, baldness, earlobe attachment, cleft chin, ear point and so on so we can use it to show how genetics-inheritance works. You could even try to track medical conditions like high blood pressure, talk to your folks to make sure they are comfortable with it. The other thing that sometimes comes up is difficulty tracing family, so if you have trouble with that find a celebrity you want to be "part of your family" and that you can find a picture of so you can see the traits you are tracking. There are lots of examples on line if you look, be creative and have fun.

However, attendance will be restricted at all events through this weekend, with updates to be announced Monday, March 16, for the remainder of the girls and boys basketball tournaments. The MHSAA Ice Hockey Semifinals and Finals will be played March 12-14 at USA Hockey Arena, with Lower Peninsula Boys Swimming & Diving Finals beginning Friday, March 13 and concluding March 14 at Oakland University and Holland Aquatic Center. Girls Gymnastics at Rockford High School also will be competed Friday and Saturday this weekend. Basketball games during the next two days also will allow only limited spectators, as determined by participating schools and following these same restrictions. Each competing school will provide the entry list of parents, legal guardians and essential administrators to the host site prior to each contest. Online ticket sales have been stopped, and all tickets that have been purchased are voided and will be fully refunded. Fans not allowed to attend will have the opportunity to watch coverage of all three of this weekend’s Finals live on MHSAA.tv. Complete streaming of all 12 Hockey Semifinals and Finals games is scheduled, as is streaming of both the Team and Individual Gymnastics Finals and both preliminaries and Finals for swimming & diving. MHSAA.tv also will carry a number of girls and boys basketball games this weekend as part of its usual subscription coverage by members of the School Broadcast Program. The streaming of all three divisions of the MHSAA Swimming & Diving Finals and both Team and Individual Gymnastics Finals will be provided FREE OF CHARGE. More details about access to these free feeds will be provided in the next update this afternoon. This remains a fluid situation, and another update will be released today, March 12, at 2 p.m. Updates will be posted to the MHSAA Website at https://www.mhsaa.com/coronavirus. During a special assembly today, Jack Trowbridge was inducted into the Navy as an honorary sailor. Although Jack is unable to join in the traditional sense, he loves the Navy & has had several family members serve in it. He has made strong connections with the Navy staff & recruits who have been visiting our school this year (one of whom is also named Jack); he hugs them, hangs out with them, & refers to them as his brothers. They wanted to honor him & his love for the Navy through this ceremony. The band played the National Anthem & the Navy Hymn, a Navy official swore him in, & he was presented with a certificate, a uniform, & a Navy drone. Several family members & Navy officers were in attendance to help support Jack on this special occasion.

Kim Lint was a beloved kindergarten teacher here in Mesick for 34 years, who just retired last year. Mrs. Lint touched and blessed so many lives in her teaching career here; she had a real gift for building relationships with students. It is with great sadness we share that she passed away last night after a short, unexpected illness. She will certainly be missed. Students were informed of Mrs. Lint's death at school today. Our counselors are available to them if they need a place to talk or cry. Please keep the family in your thoughts & prayers during this difficult time.

It was a bittersweet weekend for Mesick Athletics. Our football team traveled to Kingston Friday night for the first round of the MHSAA playoffs but unfortunately were not able to bring home a win. The magical season has come to an end but not before the boys were able to make history as conference champions and notch 11 selections to the WMD All Conference team. It was an amazing year for these guys and it will not be the last time we hear about them! On Saturday afternoon at the Cross Country State Finals Grant Fleis ran the race of his life and finished 27th overall. This outstanding performance allowed Grant to bring home a medal and also got him selected to the Division 4 Boys All-State Cross Country Team. Congratulations Grant and we can't wait to see what you do as a Senior! Monday provided a big time performance from the Mesick Volleyball team as they beat rival Buckley in the first round of District play. The girls will be playing tonight at 6:00 pm vs Traverse City Christian in the District Semi-Final. We hope to see everyone there cheering on the girls as they look to play in their second district championship in the last 3 years. Also tonight our JH Boys Basketball team will be playing in their second contest of the season at Bear Lake. On Monday the boys split with Brethren and are looking to rebound tonight at 5:30 pm. Have a great week everyone and we hope to see you at the game!
I would like to invite all of our service men and women to attend and be recognized at our annual Veterans Day assembly this Monday Nov. 11th at 9:00 am in the JR/SR High gymnasium. For questions please email email@example.com.
Congratulations! Congratulations to everyone, the operational millage has unofficially passed. Thank you for everyone who took the time to vote!
Hello All, I received the email below this past weekend. This is a testament to our students, staff and community. This was the first time Mesick has played Kingston in any event. Great job on leaving a great impression! Proud to be a Bulldog! Good Evening Gentlemen; As I said last night to Kyle and Coach Ream, last night was what high school sports is really all about. I witnessed 31 players, several coaches and numerous Mesick fans show the best display of sportsmanship I have seen in my over 40 years of high school athletics. Helping players off the ground, patting them on the back and helmet and even once a Mesick player pulled a Kingston players jersey back over his shoulder pad. Watching your team shake the hands of the MHSAA officials was an inspiration. In the cafeteria after the game every player and coach that was there said "thank you" for the pizza and drinks. The parents I talked to were extremely friendly and complementary on the night as a whole. Regardless of the score, because of what I witnessed, The Mesick Bulldogs were the true winners. I (we) here at Kingston High School wish you great success in the future and hope to see you again down the road. -- Thank You Carl Nicol Kingston Athletics
Please do not forget to vote tomorrow on the renewal of Mesick School's Non- Homestead Operational Millage. The non-homestead operating millage renewal proposal on the November 5th ballot will not affect taxes on your primary residence (home). The millage applies mainly to businesses and second homes. If your primary residence is within the Mesick Consolidated School District, the non-homestead operating millage renewal will have no impact on your tax rate—none! However, all registered voters living in the Mesick Consolidated School District can vote on the non-homestead operating millage renewal. Here’s what your vote means: A YES vote will… • NOT affect taxes on your primary residence (home). (The non-homestead operating millage applies mainly to businesses and second homes.) • allow the school district to continue to levy the number of operating mills required to receive revenues at the full per pupil allowance permitted by the State. • generate approximately $1.3 million in annual operating revenue for school district programs and services. • renew the non-homestead operating millage approved by voters in 2014. A NO vote will… • NOT affect taxes on your primary residence (home). • mean a loss of of approximately $1.3 million in annual revenue for school district programs and services. • mean reductions in programs for students and services to the community. The non-homestead operating millage proposal will not affect taxes on your home if you live in the Mesick Consolidated School District. However, voter approval of the millage will generate approximately $1.3 million for school programs and services. Please make sure you vote at the polls on Tuesday, November 5th. If you have questions or need more information, please contact me at 231/885-1200 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

All juniors and seniors participated in a career information workshop today to match aptitudes and interests with potential careers. The workshop was based on the ASVAB that students took a couple weeks ago. Although the ASVAB can be used for students planning to join the military, we did not share any of their results with the military. We were using it primarily as a career exploration tool for our students. Hopefully, students gained some useful information about career options.

Dear Parents, It was reported to us last evening that earlier in the week a junior/senior high student had mentioned to other students that he had a gun in his bag. Law enforcement was contacted and the statement was found to not be true. All students are safe, Please remind your children that it is very important to let adults know immediately if they hear things like this. It is also important to remind your children that is not alright to joke or play around in this manner. Again, all students are safe and law enforcement determined that this statement was not truthful. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
