Mesick to Become One of the Best!

Mesick Schools has set the goal to be one of the top performing districts in Northern Michigan.  Our community deserves the best.  Progress has been made but we still have more work to do.  The last year has been trying for staff, students and the community because of the need to cut costs and the uncertain funding levels from the State.  The uncertainties are not resolved yet.  The Governor recently proposed a budget that recommends no further cuts in funding to schools predicated on extending the state sales tax to services.  If it passes, it would be a welcome financial relief to Mesick but is not a sure thing until voted on by the Legislature.

Mesick needs to continue on a path to restructure our programs and support functions.  We have to spend our resources wisely to focus maximum efforts on educating our students.  The Restructuring Committee is being asked to review all of our functions to look for opportunities for improvement, to set priorities and evaluate cost effectiveness.  Any thoughts and recommendations from parents, students and the public are welcomed and can be submitted through our new suggestion box on the website.  With everyone working together, we can meet our goals and provide a top tier education to our students.

The Board of Education has hired George Hubbard as consultant to conduct the search for a new superintendent. He will be here for community input on Wednesday, March 10th 2:00 - 2:30 in the Middle School Teachers Workroom and on Thursday, March 11th 6:00 - 7:30 PM in the High School Teachers Workroom.

If you have any questions, please contact Linda Simerson at 231-885-1200 extension 351 or at simersonl@mesick.org.

Snow White!
“There are Two Sides to Every Story…”  Come along with the Mesick High School Drama Department, as we take a look at the other side of the Snow White fairy tale.
What if…Snow White wasn’t a persecuted princess?
What if…her Stepmother only wanted to teach her to be a better person?
What if…Stars not only fell from the sky, but became actual people who could grant wishes?
What if…a gang of brothers living together in the woods got more than they had bargained for?

Find the answers to these, and a whole lot of other questions, as we bring you our exciting 8th season of theater in Mesick.
Snow White is a twist on the classic myth, written by a Mesick Consolidated Schools student, 8th grader Dana Musial.  The music this year will be a “review” of sorts, as we bring some of today’s contemporary hits to the stage with new lyrics.
In short, this is our most ambitious project to date!
So come along with the Mesick High School Theater Department, March 11, 12, at 7:00 p.m., and March 13th at 12:00 and 5:00 p.m.
Tickets are $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults, and will be on sale in the High School Office beginning Wednesday February 3rd.  Contact Sharren Williamson at 885-1201 for ticketing information, and information on the Mesick Bus Driver’s “dinner theater” night.
